Minoan pithos with bull heads and double-axes
The bull's head and labrys (double-axe) were sacred symbols in Minoan culture and art. The shape of this pithos is filled by spirals and decorations characteristic of Minoan art.
The original, dating to ca 1500BC, was found on the island of Psira close to Crete and is now in the museum in Heraklion in Crete.
