The Artemis of Ephesus was the principal deity of ancient Ephesus, worshiped as a goddess of fertility, nature, and the protector of animals. Her distinctive statue depicts her with multiple breasts or sacred glands, symbolizing abundance and fertility. She wears an elaborate garment adorned with animal figures, and in some representations, her face is black, possibly signifying her connection to the earth and mystical nature.
The statue was housed in the famous Temple of Artemis (Artemision), one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and was one of the most significant religious icons of antiquity.
