Bust from a statue of Hippocrates that was found near the Odeon on the Island of Kos. Greekphysician, traditionally revered as the father of medicine. Son of a physician, traveled widely in Greece and Asia Minor, teaching and practising his art of medicine. The famous Hippocratic Oath which is a sworn to by new physicians is attributed to him.
