In antiquity, terracotta rattles served a dual purpose. Beyond soothing and entertaining toddlers, their sound was believed to possess apotropaic powers—warding off evil spirits and protecting newborns.

Pigs were deeply associated with Demeter, the goddess of agriculture and fertility, symbolizing rebirth, divine protection, and maternal care.
