Kamares ware is a characteristic type of pottery from the Minoan period, specifically from the Protopalatial phase (circa 2000–1700 BCE). It derives its name from the Kamares cave in Crete, where the first examples were discovered.
These ceramics are distinguished by their polychromy (typically a combination of white, red, and yellow colors on a black background).
The motifs are abstract and geometric, with an emphasis on curvature and balance.
They are a testament to the high aesthetic and craftsmanship of the Minoan civilization and are considered among the most renowned examples of Minoan
