Attic White Lekythos “The Muses on Mount Helicon”
Replica after the work of the Achilles Painter (440–430 BC) – Staatliche Antikensammlungen, Munich
This white-ground lekythos is inspired by the original masterpiece of the renowned Achilles Painter, one of the finest vase painters of classical Athens.
On its soft ivory surface, two Muses are depicted on Mount Helicon, the sacred mountain of inspiration where, according to myth, the divine sisters of art and poetry dwelled.
One Muse sits gracefully holding a lyre, while the other stands with a scroll — a serene dialogue between music and verse, symbolizing the harmony of artistic creation. The scene radiates calmness, intellect, and the quiet strength of beauty that connects humanity with the divine.
White-ground lekythoi were vessels of purity, remembrance, and spiritual grace, often used in funerary contexts but always expressing the Athenian ideal of refined simplicity.
Delicately handcrafted following ancient techniques, this replica revives the timeless essence of the Muse — the eternal source of creativity and harmony.
